
The MOOC is a mandatory online class for first time auxiliaries in Madrid. Successful completion of this course is a basic requirement for the program, so it can affect your standing (and stipend) in the program.
If you wish to renew in this program, you must pass the course. Your final grade will consist of your online class score (graded automatically) and your portfolio and final project (graded by your bilingual coordinator).
The MOOC typically includes 3 parts:*
- An online class
- A “Portfolio” or website that shows what you have done so far as an auxiliary teacher. There is a specific rubric you need to follow to meet all the requirements, but for the most part, it serves as an introduction to you and your work at the school.
- A final project that is basically a detailed lesson plan.
*Course content is subject to change. Your course and language coordinator will also mention all the requirements.

This year, it looks like you will be providing a short PowerPoint presentation on cultural aspects instead of a portfolio/website.
Your projects and presentations must be submitted to both EducaMadrid and AuxMadrid. Make sure to include a creative commons license. If you don’t include it, you will receive an automatic 0.

Also, your links need to be publicly accessible. I’ve heard horror stories where privacy settings didn’t allow their coordinator to access their final project resulting in a failed MOOC.
Below you can find specific information for the 2024-2025 MOOC. There are 5 modules including the final project. The online course begins October 1st, 2024, and it will end on January 13th, 2025.

At the beginning of the auxiliary program, you should receive login credentials via email or AuxMadrid. If you can not access the course due to expired login credentials, you can submit an incidencia via AuxMadrid with the subject line “MOOC”.

Part 1: The Online Course

Modules will be released throughout the program. They can be quickly completed with relative ease, but don’t procrastinate. Each module will contain text, videos, prompts, and quizzes about teaching, the Spanish school system, and your role as an auxiliary English conversation teacher. The quizzes are graded automatically, and you can fail them. Don’t worry though. Each quiz can be retaken, and only the highest score is counted towards your final grade.
If you have any technical difficulties with the course such as missing modules and assignments, try to troubleshoot the problem first. If you can’t find a solution, take a screenshot of the issue and submit an incidencia through AuxMadrid with the title “MOOC” explaining the issue.
Part 2: Portfolio/Website
I created a blog post for both my portfolio and final project using Medium. You can create and submit your portfolio and final project using the following websites: Medium, Wix, Google Sites, WordPress, and Blogger.
For 2023-2024, you will be submitting a cultural PowerPoint presentation about yourself.
Advice: Follow the rubric exactly. Introduce yourself, give basic cultural info about your background, and keep it positive.
Part 3: Final Project
Final Project Personal Example
This was another blog post that detailed a lesson plan completed at my school. For the final project, you are highly recommended to coordinate with your bilingual coordinator. Make sure to discuss expectations, deadlines, and your plans for the final project.
They can make suggestions, alterations, and help you execute your plan with other teachers. In my example, he helped me coordinate and schedule a science experiment with the bachillerato classes for my lesson plan. Your bilingual coordinator will offer you guidance, and following their advice, you are guaranteed to receive a great grade for your project.
At the bottom of the project, I made sure to include a works cited. Don’t plagiarize!
